When Freddie Mercury died in November 1991, he left behind a body of recorded work spanning 20 years. The bulk of his archive naturally relates to the 15 studio LPs and 700 live concerts recorded with Queen, but Freddie also recorded two solo albums, several non-album singles, and guest appearances on numerous projects by friends.
As a songwriter, Mercury wrote ten out of the seventeen songs on Queen's Greatest Hits album, including Seven Seas of Rhye, Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody to Love, Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, We Are the Champions, Bicycle Race, Don't Stop Me Now, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and Play The Game.
The two pieces that Mercury recorded for the Time musical ("Time" and "In My Defense") have not been altered too much, and these hard-to-find ballads and the cover of "The Great Pretender" are the major selling points of the album, given the fine, dramatic performances given by Mercury.
